Graduate Student Talk: Ryan Ravanpak

Take a look at the List Center’s exhibitions from a new perspective. Join Ryan Ravanpak in the MIT Philosophy Department to discover more about Alicja Kwade: In Between Glances. The talk will focus on how identity, meaning, and value in art is determined. We will consider the role that artistic intention can have on aesthetic merit, and how different processes of creation and interpretation can inform our attitudes about the content, structure, and value of the work. We will examine this subject through the lens of Alicja Kwade’s exhibition, and along the way we will discuss related areas in the subject of philosophy and aesthetics.
About the Speaker
Ryan Ravanpak is a Ph.D. candidate in the MIT department of Philosophy. He studies issues at the intersection of metaphysics and ethics, and he also has substantive interests in aesthetics and the history of early modern philosophy. Before this, he was at the University of California, Berkeley. In his spare time, he enjoys creative writing and musical pursuits.
