Dear Friends,
As we conclude another season at the MIT List Visual Arts Center, I am grateful for the opportunity to share this report on the past year.
At the List Center, our mission is to champion groundbreaking art and artists. Each year, we launch the careers of talented creatives from around the world, foster overdue and timely discourse, and present dynamic educational programming to our audiences. Reflecting on the period from July 1, 2023–June 30, 2024, I am pleased to highlight how we advanced our mission this past year as we look ahead to celebrating our 40th anniversary in 2025.
To mark the tenth anniversary of our signature List Projects series, we presented a special season centered on artistic collaborations. Over the course of the year, we showcased three List Projects exhibitions featuring fields harrington and Nancy Valladares; Sophie Friedman-Pappas and TJ Shin; and Brittni Ann Harvey and Harry Gould Harvey IV. Each exhibition paired artists with a shared history of dialogue, fostering their continued collaboration through a joint commission.
Additionally, we organized major, critically acclaimed solo exhibitions by Carlos Reyes, Hana Miletić, and Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme. Through MIT’s Percent for Art program, we unveiled two new major commissions: a mural by Spencer Finch in the new Stephen A. Schwarzman College of Computing building, and new works by Julian Charrière in the lobby and courtyard of the Tina and Hamid Moghadam Building for the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences.
In the report, I am excited to share how our team continues to push the boundaries of contemporary art, creating opportunities for engagement both on campus and globally. I am proud of all we have accomplished, made possible by your generous support.
I hope you enjoy this retrospective and that we see you on campus and in our galleries soon.
Here’s to a fulfilling, healthy, and art-filled 2025, enriched by meaningful connections. We are deeply grateful for your support and engagement.
With all our best,
