A group of people are standing around and seated on a colorful bench in a gallery as artist Christine Sun Kim talks near her work.

Members gather to hear from Christine Sun Kim in advance of her opening reception in February 2020 at the MIT List Visual Arts Center. Photo by Mel Taing.

We’ll start our day at the studio of Sheida Soleimani, an Iranian-American artist who lives in Providence. The daughter of political refugees who were persecuted by the Iranian government in the early 1980s, Soleimani makes work that melds sculpture, collage and photography and highlights her own critical perspective on historical and contemporary socio-political occurrences in Iran. Soleimani’s work was recently included in the DeCordova’sNew England Biennial.

Next, we’ll head to the RISD Museum to visit Raid The Icebox Now. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its exhibition Raid the Icebox I with Andy Warhol, the RISD Museum is engaging contemporary artists and designers Pablo Bronstein, Nicole Eisenman, Pablo Helguera, Beth Katleman, Simone Leigh, Sebastian Ruth, Paul Scott, and Triple Canopy to create new bodies of work or create a unique curatorial project using the museum as a site for critical, creative production and presentation.

To inquire or RSVP, please email jamesonj [at] mit.edu (Jameson Johnson). Travel opportunities at the List Center are offered to Members at the Leader level and above.
