Take a look at the List’s exhibitions from a new perspective. Join us to discover Rosa Barba: The Color Out of Space through this interdisciplinary gallery talk, led by a member of the MIT graduate student community.
This talk will be led by Claire Webb, a current student in MIT’s Doctoral Program in History, Anthropology, and Science, Technology, and Society (HASTS). An early love of astronomy led Claire to pursue that major at Vassar College, and her college job was working in the Observatory. Through a particularly memorable REU, she did research at the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence and was brought on to help with further research in Tahiti. At school, Claire was interested in other disciplines, too, especially feminist studies and philosophy. She is interested to understand how the SETI Institute was able to harness and then frame an enduring narrative of popular science. She also wants to incorporate feminist philosophy of science and epistemology in this investigation.
