LVAC educator Mark Linga will lead a gallery walk through of the List Center’s current exhibition current exhibition:  Orthostatic Tolerance (It Might Not Be Such a Bad Idea if I Never Went Home).  This solo exhibition features works by Tavares Strachan including new works created as the result of the artist’s visits to MIT as part of the List Center’s artist residency program.

This gallery talk will also feature guest speaker Associate Professor George Barbastathis one of the MIT partners in Strachan’s residency project at MIT.  Professor Barbasthatis will speak about MIT’s 3D Optical Systems Group and their involvement in the collaborative process which resulted in the creation of a new work for the exhibition.

Over the course of numerous visits begun in July, 2009 Strachan met with researchers and scholars in the departments of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the MIT Sea Grant College Program’s Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Lab. In addition the artist collaborated with a group of graduate students in MIT’s 3-D Imaging Optical Group to create a nano-sized topographical landscape.
