Film Screening Titicut Follies (1967)

June 20, 2015, 2:00PM

Baros Theater, E15 Lower Level
20 Ames Street, Bldg. E15, Cambridge MA 02139

In conjunction with the exhibition Eva Koťátková: Out of Sight, join us for a screening of director Frederick Wiseman’s Titicut Follies (1967, 84 min., b&w). Exhibition curator Henriette Huldisch will introduce the film.

Koťátková’s central theme in her List exhibition is the individual’s relationship to normative social structures and institutions, such as the government, schools, or psychiatric hospitals. Wiseman’s films often examine similar social structures and institutions. In Titicut Follies (1967), Wiseman examines the treatment of patients at Bridgewater State Hospital, a facility in southeastern Massachusetts where psychiatrists and psychologists evaluate individuals charged with or convicted of crimes.
